Shirley A. Cunningham, 81, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Bill McCarthy will officiate. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. and a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be directed through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com.

Shirley Ann Cunningham was born on July 6, 1930, in Sioux City, the daughter of Orlando and Loretta (LiMoges) Wheelock. She received her education in Elk Point, S.D., where she graduated from high school. Following high school, Shirley worked as a waitress.

Shirley and Robert Cunningham were married in Sioux City. Shirley worked as a pharmacy tech at various pharmacies in Sioux City for many years. During these years, she also tended bar at Cheers in Sergeant Bluff. Robert passed away in November 1987. Shirley moved to Le Mars in 1998. She took a position with Family Pharmacy and later with Hy-Vee Pharmacy as a pharmacy tech prior to her retirement.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Shirley enjoyed gathering with friends at the Golden Pheasant and Archie's Waeside. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She worked hard all her life but always took the time to help out those less fortunate than her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Sandra (Robert) Raisbeck of Loveland, Colo., Debra (Larry) Mellott of Phoenix, Ariz., Bradley (Pat) Sorensen of Phoenix, Brian Sorensen of Farmington, N.M., and Lisa (Terry) Messelhiser of Le Mars; grandchildren, Lana Lissman, Leanna Montague and Carrie Montague, all of Cheyenne, Wyo., Andrea Sorensen, Marissa Mellott and Steven Sorensen, all of Phoenix, Justin Hudelson of Le Mars, Justin Messelhiser of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Maylon Messelhiser of Le Mars; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Johnson of Oak Creek, Wis.; a brother, Ronald (Shareil) Wheelock of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sisters, Elaine Reitz, Pat McCarty and infant sister Viola Marie; and brothers, Edgar, Willis, Vincent, Gilbert, Howard and Arlen
