SIOUX CITY | Kenneth F. Lubbers, 70, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Peace Reformed Church, with the Rev. Bob Rook officiating. Military honors will be conducted at the conclusion of the service. Visitation with the family will be the hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Ken was born Dec. 11, 1941, in Sioux Center, Iowa, the son of Ted and Hilda (Cleveland) Lubbers. He grew up in Sioux Center and graduated from Sioux Center High School. He served with the U.S. Army as a military police officer. On Aug. 14, 1964, he married Connie Bleeker in Sioux Center.

After his discharge from the Army, he worked at Omar Bread Co., Sioux Tools and John Morrell. Ken then worked for 38 years at Chesterman Bottling Co. and retired in 1998.

Ken was an avid golfer and was an original member of “The List” at Green Valley Golf Course. He was a member of Peace Reformed Church. Earlier years he was ground keeper and deacon at Morningside Reformed Church. Ken loved spending time with his grandkids and attending their school and sports activities.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; three children, Kirk Lubbers and his wife, Susie of Moville, Iowa, Lisa Schatz of Sioux City, and Kevin Lubbers and his wife, Shannan of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Marlene Foxhoven and her husband, Dennis of Ida Grove, Iowa; and eight grandchildren, Nathan and Caleb Lubbers, Kiley and Brandon Carlson, Alexis, Brianna, Brody and Morgan Lubbers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alroy and Roger Lubbers.

Honorary pallbearers will be “The List”, Ken’s long-time friends and golf buddies from Green Valley Golf Club.

Memorials may be made in his name to Peace Reformed Church
