SIOUX CITY -- Jerry E. Seward, 75, of Sioux City passed away Feb. 5, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center after a courageous battle with rectal cancer.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Jerry was born Aug. 7, 1936, in Sioux City, to Ernest and Viola (Shelley) Seward. He graduated from Central High School in 1954.

He married Janice Jones on Aug. 7, 1959, and they were married for 52 years. Jerry served in the Air National Guard and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He was a federal meat inspector for the USDA for 37 years. He also was a janitor at the Air Force/Marine Recruiting Station, before working at Milborn Feed and Seed. Jerry also was Santa Claus at the mall for several years.

He enjoyed golf, football, and bowling. He also was a square dancer and caller. He walked three to four miles every day for 30 years and loved to visit with people and pets along his route. On his 70th birthday, he walked seven miles. Jerry loved to travel all over the United States and Canada and even made a trip to Alaska with his son. He was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church. Jerry was a devoted husband and family man.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Seward; a son, Kevin Seward of Pendleton, Ore.; and a daughter, Kim Seward of Canyon, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
