SIOUX CITY -- Betty J. Thompson, 81, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3713 Green Ave., with Noel Simpson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Betty was born on June 2, 1930, in Sioux City, to Albert and Augusta Andersen. She was raised on a farm near Hubbard, Neb. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1948. She later graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Nursing in 1953.

She married Noel W. Thompson on Dec. 31, 1955, in Homer, Neb. She worked as a registered nurse at the Osteopathic Hospital in Sioux City for five years and at Sunrise Retirement Community for 25 years.

Her greatest delights were talking to others about her God, Jehovah, and spending time with her four great-grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Sioux City congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses for more than 50 years.

Betty is survived by her son, Daniel Thompson and his wife, Katie of Sioux City; her daughter, Julie Martin and her husband, Phil of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Marja Myers and her husband, Josh of Phoenix, Leah Janelle and her husband, Jeremy of Phoenix, Cassie Thompson, Zachary Thompson, and Jacob Thompson, all of Sioux City; and four great-grandchildren, Aspen Moore, Ozzy Moore, Judah Janelle and Luke Janelle, all of Phoenix.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Stanley; and a sister, Alberta.
