James Elwood Eatherton Sr., 79, 3290 Martha St, Lot 53, died Saturday, August 19, 1995, at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Westminister Presbyterian church with the Rev. Richard Francis officiating. The body was cremated and the ashes will be buried in Arlington Township Cemetery at Moville, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Morningside Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mr. Eatherton was born January 15, 1916 in Mound City, Mo. He came to the Soldier/Moorhead (Iowa) area in 1933 with the Civil Conservation Corps and had lived in the Sioux City area since. He married Vivian Berg in 1938. She died in 1967. He married Edna Sparks April 30, 1971. He was a diesel mechanic with the Herman Brown Construction Equipment Co. until his retirement in 1981.

Mr. Eatherton was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and former member of the Eagles Club of South Sioux City. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the Combat Engineers in the European Theatre.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Beverly and her husband, Bill Rodgers of Carter Lake, Iowa; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Diana and Douglas Neubaum of Sioux City and Connie and Danny Schultzen of Moville, Iowa; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Inez Wright of Moberly, Mo.; a brother, Arnold Eatherton of Valley Center, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons in infancy; a stepson, Phillip Sparks; a granddaughter, Tamara Hinrichsen, a step-great-granddaughter, Rae-Jean Schultzen and a sister, Altha Knight.
