Althea Emmileen "Allie" Mehl, 80, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jon Gaul officiating. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Mehl was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Engelman Township, Ill., the daughter of Gustav and Estella (Krauth) Laux. She graduated from New Baden High School in 1939, in New Baden, Ill. After high school she moved to St. Louis, Mo., to work.

She married Boyd Hel on Oct. 9, 1942. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1945. She worked for the Sioux City Public Schools as a secretary and retired in 1982 after 15 years of service. Mr. Mehl died Jan. 23, 2000, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Sioux City Senior Center. She loved to travel and cook for her family and friends.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay Mehl of Rochester, Minn., Connie and her husband, Larry Bethards of Greeley, Colo., and Janet Mehl of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a sister and her husband, Ethel and Udell Kimmle of Mascoutah, Ill.; three brothers and their wives, Don and Laverne Laux and Eugene and Pauline Laux, all of New Baden, and Raymond and Agatha Laux of Trenton, Ill.; two grandsons, Kelby Bethards of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jared Bethards of Denver, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Russell Laux.

Pallbearers will be Jared, Kelby and Larry Bethards, Don Marsh, Tom Victor and Jerry White.

Memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church.
