HORNICK, Iowa -- Elda Maureen Byers, 89, of Anaheim, Calif., formerly of Hornick, passed away March 22, 2011.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Orange Calif. Private graveside services will be in Riverside National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hilgenfeld Mortuary in Anaheim.

Elda was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Hornick, to Clara and Hermann Steinhoff. Her sisters were Eva and Lois. After the death of their mother, their father remarried and had a brother, Jack. In Denison, Iowa, she met her beloved Vic and they married in 1944. They had three children, Vicki, Dallas and Vic III. After 28 years in the U.S. Air Force, Vic retired and they moved to Anaheim, where she lived out her life.

Survivors include her daughter, Vicki and husband, Michael; son, Vic III and wife, Linda; daughter-in-law, Jan Byers; sister, Lois and husband, Carl Kluver; brother, Jack and wife, Gloria Steinhoff; two grandsons; three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vic; eldest son, Dallas; sister, Eva; and great-grandson, Nolan.
