SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa -- Gearld C. "Pete" Johnson, 81, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City. Military graveside rites will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Pete was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Onawa, Iowa, to Ross and Mabel (Cole) Johnson. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was married to Patricia Louise Stinson on Dec. 19, 1952, in El Cajon, Calif. She preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2002, in Sioux City.

Pete had various occupations, including farming, but was predominantly a welder for Sioux City Foundry. Pete thoroughly enjoyed collecting and shooting guns, riding his motorcycle, raising horses and tinkering and building things. Most of all, though, Pete was very involved with his grandkids.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Kentner of Sioux City; son, Scott (Carolyn) Johnson of Kansas City, Mo., two grandchildren, Noah and Jasmine Beeck of Sioux City; brother, Ross (Linda) Johnson Jr. of Onawa; and sister, Dolly Maxwell of Los Angeles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill; and a sister, Mary Ann.
