SIOUX CITY -- Sandra Lee Burke, 68, of Sioux City died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Larry Madsen officiating. Private inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. No visitation is planned. Online condolences may be made at www.pearsonwoodwillman.com.

Sandra Lee Burke, daughter of Leo B. and Olivia "Olive" M. (Madsen) Burke, was born Feb. 3, 1943, in Sioux City. Sandy was raised and educated in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. She then attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a registered nurse. She made her home in Denver, Colo., for several years and worked as a nurse at General Rose Hospital. After returning to Sioux City, Sandy worked at the Southern Hills Hy-Vee for the past 13 years.

Sandy loved animals, especially dogs and cats. In recent years she had a dog named Samantha.

Sandy is survived by her cousins, Jane Heck, Joan Thoreson, Virginia Van Ness, Burdette Madsen, Charles Madsen, Kingsley Miner, Jack Jordan, Fran Jordan, Karen Zimmerman, Richard Madsen Jr. and Larry Madsen; her dog, Samantha; special friends, Nancy Schwartz, Susan Harris and Cindy Rarrat; and her co-workers at Hy-Vee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Olive Burke; aunts; uncles; and other relatives.
