SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy M. West, 73, of Sioux City, died Saturday, April 21, 2011, in Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wedneday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Pastor Roger Spahr will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 7:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7:30 p.m. A prayer service will follow the visitation. Pastor Harold Becker will officiate at the prayer service. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery

Dorothy was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Watertown, S.D., the daughter of Alfred and Leone (Griner) Jacobson. She grew up in the Waterstown area and later moved to Rapid City, where she met Harold West.

She was a very loving mother of four children when she married Harold West on June 26, 1971, in Rapid City. In 1974, they were blessed with a third daughter, Malina. In 1989, Jason came into Dorothy's life and became another beloved child.

Dorothy worked for 15 years at 200 Maple Place in Watertown where she was a caregiver.

It was her passion to be the best mother she could be. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy also enjoyed horses, music and dancing. She loved playing the guitar and piano and spent hours of her free time crocheting and knitting. Dorothy had a personal relationship with her savior Jesus. Her family was her whole life.

Survivors include her husband, Harold of Sioux City; children, Luanne Thovson and her husband, Gary of Hermosa, S.D., Jeff Bohlman and his wife, Stacey of Watertown, Debbie Becker and her husband, Hal Becker of Wells, Minn., Joey Bohlmann and his wife, Mary of Belle Fourche, S.D., Malina Ard and her husband, Matt of Sioux City, Jason Kasparek and his wife, Cassie of Watertown; a brother, Richard Jacobson and his wife, Faye of Franklin, N.C.; a sister, Marj Muller and her husband, Ray of Watertown; a sister-in-law, Kit Jacobson; 20 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters, Cheryl Kasparek, Alan Jacobson, Neal Jacobson, Marion Randall and Marlys Jacobson,

Pallbearers will be Bobby Bohlmann, Micaiah Becker, Joseph Becker, Tyler Ard, Dean Jacobson and Jason Kasparek. Honorary pallbearers wil be Garrett and Justin Thovson, Jacob Bohlmann and Jake Verry.

Memorials may be in her name to the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the staff at the Bernstein Unit and Sunrise Retirement Community for the excellent care given to Dorothy.
