SIOUX CITY -- Louis F. "Bud" Pierce Jr., 92, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a Masonic service at 7 p.m. by Morningside Lodge 615, all at the funeral home. Louis was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of Louis F. Pierce Sr. and Marguerite M. (Pike) Pierce. He was educated in the Sioux City Public Schools.

On Nov. 29, 1937, he married Beulah M. Navin in Dakota City. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a tank commander with the 8th Armored Division and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. Bud was secretary/treasurer of Pierce Van Lines and retired in 1982.

Bud was a member of Morningside Lodge 615 A.F. & A.M., the Sioux City Consistory, Columbian Commandery 18, Knights Templar, the Shrine Oriental Band, of which he was past president, the Royal Order of Jesters. He served as Potentate of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and the Order of the Eastern Star in 1971.

He was also active in civic affairs, being a past president of the Sioux City Transportation Club, past president of the Sioux City Business Leaders Association and a member of the Elks Lodge. He helped bring the Better Business Bureau to Sioux City.

He enjoyed traveling, camping with his family, hunting, movies and breakfasts on weekends with his son, Mark (a tradition for 40 years).

Survivors include his wife of more than 73 years, Beulah; a daughter and her husband, Sandie and Pat Corrigan; a son and his wife, Mark and Neva Pierce, all of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Marq (Amy) Corrigan of Omaha, Brad (Summer) Pierce of Portland, Ore., and Marne Pierce of Sioux City; a great-grandson, Damian Corrigan of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Clare Navin of Sioux City; and nieces and nephews, Rick Skavdahl of Omaha, Gary Anderson of Gillette, Wyo., and Bobbie Kauffman of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clair Pierce and his wife, Sophia; and a sister, Jewel Windle and her husband, Albert.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandson.

Memorials may be made in his name to Abu Bekr Shrine Transportation Fund.
