SERGEANT BLUFF -- Alex D. Shumansky, 50, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Sunrise Retirement Community following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Private family services will be at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. A public celebration of life gathering will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Family Recreation Center (blue building) in Sergeant Bluff. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Alex was born July 4, 1960, in Sioux City, the son of Alex and Bonnie (Copple) Shumansky. He graduated from Lawton-Bronson High School.

He married Sara Wilson in 1986 in Sioux City. He was a self-employed cabinet maker for many years.

Alex enjoyed yard work, gardening, dirt biking, the Food Channel and eating hot peppers. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his girls.

Survivors include his wife, Sara of Sergeant Bluff; three daughters, Morgan, Michelle and Meg, all at home; his mother, Bonnie Shumansky of Sioux City; two brothers, Scott Shumansky and his wife, LaDonna, Todd Shumansky and his wife, Tara, all of Sioux City; mother-in-law, Paula Wilson; father-in-law, Darryl Wilson and his wife, Joyce; two brothers-in-law, Jim Noethe and his wife, Beth and Paul Wilson; nieces and nephews, Bryan, Austin, Aubrey, Jace, Kirk, Brandon, Derek, Alysha, David and Andrew; and two great nephews, Alex and Jacoby.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alex Shumansky.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Noethe, Paul Wilson, Tim Sabasta, Del Ohlerking, Terry Lambert, Denny Uhl and John Stafford.

Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of Siouxland.
