18 May 2011SIOUX CITY -- Irene M. Schwarte, 93, of Sioux City passed away Monday, May 16, 2011, at Westwood Nursing Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tess Panamarow officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Irene was born May 17, 1917, to Agusta Ohlquist in Wakefield, Neb. She graduated from Wakefield High School.
She married Frank Schwarte on May 16, 1951, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death in September 1972.
She was a homemaker and mother to three children. Irene enjoyed her family, making crafts, playing bingo, gardening, shopping, ballroom dancing and her cats.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her son, Joe (Lott) Schwarte of Salix, Iowa; her daughter, Nancy (Thomas) Zimmerman of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her son, Ronald (Theresa) Schwarte of Sioux City; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Alvin; and a sister, Inez.
