ANTHON, Iowa -- Wayne C. Sheffield, 99, of Anthon died Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Correctionville (Iowa) Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Armstrong Funeral Home, Anthon, with the Rev. Ben Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, with military graveside honors provided by the American Legion McNiff Post No. 389 of Anthon.

Wayne Charles Sheffield was born March 14, 1912, in Anthon to Charles and Eliza (Diamond) Sheffield. In 1927, his family moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and he graduated from Central High School in 1931.

During World War II, Wayne served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in England. Following the war, he attended band instrument repair school in Elkhart, Ind., and subsequently went to work for his brother, Darrell, in Darrell's music store in Sioux City. When Darrell closed his store, Wayne opened his own music store, Sheffield Band Instrument and Repair, in Sioux City. After his retirement in 1983, he moved to his acreage near Anthon.

Wayne is survived by his nieces, Pat (Bob) Mattheson of Byfield, Mass., Marsha Stacey (R. Alan Peterson) of Sioux Falls, S.D., grandnieces, grandnephews, and numerous friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sisters Dorothy and Adelaide ("Polly"), and his brother, Darrell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local Humane Society.
