SIOUX CITY -- Jack Garvey Scoville, 80, of Sioux City, while en route to see his loving daughter, Roxanne, died suddenly in the arms of his wife, Feb. 8, 2011. He had years of good health and loved all people throughout his life.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3030 Jackson St., in Sioux City. The family asked that you come and enjoy some of Jack's favorite foods, Pickerman's sandwiches, El Fredo's Pizza and chocolate chip cookies after the service.

Jack was born March 17, 1930, in Hartington, Neb., to Ralph and Maureen Garvey Scoville. He attended Hartington Central High School. He loved football and track. In 1947, Jack ran a 51.6-second quarter mile to win the Nebraska State Championship. He ran track at the University of Nebraska and had Olympic hopes until he cracked an ankle during football practice.

He married his loving wife of 56 years, Joanne Dosek on May 29, 1954. He graduated from the University of Nebraska and started working at IBM. Although successful, he made a life choice to give up the travel required by IBM and started Scoville Equipment Company (SECO). This enabled Jack and his wife to attend every school event of each of their children.

Jack and Joanne spent countless hours on the stands of sporting and theater events, watching their children grow. With the encouragement of his wife, he took up golf. He never kept his handicap, but he did have a hole-in-one at the age of 74 on a 125 yard Par 3 in Phoenix, Ariz. He would like to tell he used a pitching wedge, but it was really a five iron. None the less, it was a hole-in-one.

Very fond of children, Jack had only one grandchild, Chris. Although he did not get to see Chris often, he had the greatest dreams and wishes for his grandson as he did his children.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Joanne of Sioux City; his children, Thomas and his wife, Brenda of Foxflied, Colo., and grandson, Chris of Foxfield, James of Corpus Christi, Texas, Roxanne of Tempe, Ariz., and Michael of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; a sister, Betty Schoemer of Hartington, Neb.; and a sister-in-law, Emily Scoville.

He was preceded in death by his father mother, Ralph and Maureen; and a brother, Bob.
