SIOUX CITY -- Joseph V. Sollazzo, 92, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, in Fort Dodge.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Joseph, the son of Vincent J. and Mary C. (Chircosta) Sollazzo, was born on Jan. 2, 1919, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during World War II as a master sergeant with the 62nd radio intelligence branch. After the military, Joseph worked for Remington Rand in Omaha and was later transferred to Sioux City.

He married Mary Paulson in 1957. He later managed the Sioux City Federal Plaza Building for Woodbury Development Company. He then managed the Orpheum Electric for Postal Finance until his retirement.

Joseph joined the Sioux City Men's Bowling Association and became president in 1979. He joined the Iowa State Men's Bowling Association, serving on all committees and becoming president in 1990. He was also president of the Iowa State Young American Bowling Association from 1987 to 1990. He was elected to the Sioux City Bowling Hall of Fame in 1979 and to the Iowa State Bowling Hall of Fame in 1998. He helped to establish several new programs in bowling including Bowler of the Month and The Scholarship Program for Graduating Seniors.

Joseph is survived by one stepdaughter, Sandra Fleck; five stepgrandchildren, Christopher (Therese) Fleck, Kathleen Tennison, Stacy (Anthony) Gibbins, Sheilah (Joel) Lizer, and Amy (Troy) Swigert; six great-stepgrandchildren, Blake Gibbins, Jade Schroder, Luke Fleck, Lydia Fleck, Jackson Swigert, and Nathan Swigert.
