CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Junior Hunwardsen, 86, of Correctionville passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at his home.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, with the Rev. Sheryl K. Ashley officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home in Correctionville is in charge of arrangements.

Junior Hunwardsen was born May 1, 1924, in Cushing, Iowa, the son of August and Alma Hunwardsen.

He was united in marriage to Betty Ashmore in 1944. The couple were blessed with three children, Steven, Vicki and Pat. Junior farmed in the Cushing and Anthon, Iowa, area until 1962, when he quit farming and moved back to Cushing for a year to work at Green's Dairy in Holstein, Iowa. In 1963, they moved to Correctionville and he worked for the State Department of Transportation, the Co-op Elevator for 17 years and then drove a school bus for the Eastwood School District for 13 years.

He enjoyed working on tractors and small motors and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty; son, Steve and the late Sharon Hunwardensen and their children, Scott and Kathy Hunwardsen, and their children, Brittany and Ashley of Correctionville, Shane and Amber Hunwardsen and their children, Brooke and Tyler of Lawton, Iowa; daughter, Vicki and the late Al Meyer and their children, Wendi and David Reyman and son, Casey of Cushing, Iowa, Kyle and Mindi Maruska and their children, Austin, Trentin and Madilynn of Galva, Iowa, Corey and Missy Meyer and their children, Ben and Isaac of Holstein, Iowa; daughter, Pat and Dan Meister of Pierson, Iowa, and their children, Holly and Tim Kohn and daughter, Emma of Cushing, Heather and Shannon Fitch and their children, Mackenzie, Bailey Jo, Wyatt and Kendall of Washta, Iowa, and Heidi and Ryan Reinking of Sioux City; a brother, George; and sisters, Marge, Shirley and Gloria.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and Wilbur; and sisters, Bonnie and Helen.
