James R. Danker 1940-2011

SERGEANT BLUFF -- James R. Danker, 70, of Sergeant Bluff died Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Michael J. Erpelding officiating.

James was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Hooper, Neb., the son of William and Irene (Kassabaum) Danker. James was a 1958 graduate of Bishop Heelan High School. After graduation, James enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam during the mid-1960s.

James moved to Sioux City area, and later to an acreage near Hinton, Iowa, for 18 years. During 2006, he moved to Sergeant Bluff. James retired in 2005 from American Popcorn Company (Jolly Time) in Sioux City.

James enjoyed going to auctions. While on the acreage, he raised chicken, goats and pigs.

James is survived by his brother, William Danker and his wife, Donna of Sergeant Bluff; nephew, William Danker and his wife, Marcia of Chaska, Minn.; a niece, Pam Danker of Sioux City; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
