SIOUX CITY -- Emma M. Anderson, 94, of Sioux City, formerly of Hinton, Iowa, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Private family graveside services will be Thursday in Liberty-Perry Township Cemetery, rural Hinton. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Emma was born May 4, 1916, in Waterbury, Neb., the daughter of Reinhold and Bertha (Pansegrau) Rahtz. She came to Sioux City and married Rich Heise in 1933. She later moved to Portland, Ore., where she worked in the shipyards during World War II. Emma returned to Sioux City and worked for Cudahy Packing Plant. In 1953, she married Charles Anderson. He died in 1985.

Emma enjoyed baking and was known for her delicious pies. She also enjoyed coffee time with her neighbors. In earlier years, Emma and Chuck loved to go dancing. Shopping was a pasttime of hers, especially when she found a good bargain. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Betty and Richard Bohlke of Sioux Falls, S.D., Debra and Terry McAllister of Sioux City, and Dennis and Julie Anderson of Sioux Falls; a sister and her husband, Aletha and Roger Gosswien of Temple City, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Vicky (Joe) Allington, Jeffrey (Kathy) Bohlke, Jody Bohlke, Trisha McAllister, Sean McAllister, Devin McAllister, Jeffrey Anderson and Michael Anderson; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chuck; two brothers; and two sisters.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Holy Spirit Memorial Fund or to Hospice of Siouxland.
