SIOUX CITY -- LuAnn Clara Skatges, 55, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, after a brave five-year battle with cancer.

Per LuAnn's wishes, her body was cremated. Visitation with family present will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com

LuAnn was born Feb. 16, 1955, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Vance and Mariann (Schmidt) Harnack. She was raised on the family farm in Remsen. She graduated from Remsen Union High School. She was an administrative assistant at Gelita North America since 1991.

LuAnn was united in marriage to William Shawn Skatges on Feb. 4, 1978, in Sioux City. She was a member of the Sioux City North Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

She enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes. She was a good cook and enjoyed baking. LuAnn loved to travel and having get-togethers with her family and friends. She also enjoyed boating, hiking, riding bikes, planning shopping trips, gardening, and playing the piano. She especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandkids.

Survivors include her husband, William Skatges of Sioux City; son, Aaron (Martha) Skatges and their daughters Alyssa, Felisa, Kelsi, and Kaitlyn of Dakota City, Neb.; daughter, Krista (Wyatt) Lara of Louisville, Neb.; parents Vance and Mariann Harnack of Remsen; sister, Karen Harnack of Remsen, and brother Alan (Melissa) Harnack and their children Reece and Peyton of Remsen.
