7 January 2011SIOUX CITY -- Theresa E. "Terry" Murphy, 86, of Sioux City passed away suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m. conducted by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Theresa was born April 15, 1924, in Clear Lake, S.D., the daughter of Sam and Rose (Lastrico) Saccony. She graduated from high school in Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1944, she moved to Sioux City.
On June 24, 1946, she married Charles J. Murphy in Sioux City. To this union five sons and two daughters were born. For 13 years, she worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a claims examiner and retired in 1986. Charles died on April 5, 1987.
Terry was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Carmel Guild. She loved gardening, playing cards and enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. In earlier years, she was a hospital volunteer and was involved at the Siouxland Y.
Survivors include six children, Michael (Rita) Murphy of Globe, Ariz., Shannon Murphy, Dan (Debe) Murphy, John (Roxann) Murphy, and James Murphy, all of Sioux City, and Marianne (Doug) Scarboro of Denver, Colo.; three sisters, Fran (Tom) Paulos of New Mexico, Lois Hoelker of Sioux City, and Mary Ann O'Toole of New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son, Tim Murphy.
