7 January 2011SIOUX CITY -- Marvie V. Bauer, 81, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Marvie was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Goodrich, N.D., the son of Christian and Caroline (Werner) Bauer. Marvie served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.
Marvie was united in marriage to Doris Jaton on Sept. 2, 1955, in McClusky, N.D. They farmed in North Dakota until 1967, when they moved to Sioux City. He started working at Needham Packing, then several places until 1976, when he worked at Prince Hydraulics, where he retired in 1992.
Marvie enjoyed being with his family, visiting with everyone he met, camping and antique tractors.
Marvie is survived by his wife, Doris; one son, Mick Bauer of Sioux City and his special friend, Jana Grames of Sergeant Bluff; five daughters, Cheryl and her husband, Gene Linafelter of Ponca, Neb., Bonnie and her husband, John Rember of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Karla Bauer of Le Mars, Iowa, Patty and her husband, Dave Peterson of Sioux City, Mary Beth Bauer of Le Mars; a very special friend of the family, Tricia Ernst of Le Mars; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his beloved dog, Sadie; and one sister, Kathleen and her husband, Wally Job of Bismark, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Bauer; and a special cousin, Walter Bauer.
