SIOUX CITY -- Roger Wieck, 65, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Joel Nye officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be after 5 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will continue 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Roger Lloyd Wieck was born Oct. 31, 1945, to Lloyd and Gerri (Trometer) Wieck, on the family farm near Merrill. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. Roger attended and graduated from Hinton Community High School with the class of 1964. He continued his education at Nettleton Business College in Sioux City, graduating in 1966.

Roger and Donna Vondrak were united in marriage on July 20, 1968, at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. The couple were blessed with a daughter, Amy.

In 1966, Roger began his 42-year career with power cooperatives by going to work with the Plymouth County Rural Electric Cooperative in Le Mars. In 1974, Roger accepted a position in Jefferson, Iowa, with Greene County REC which later became the Midland Power Cooperative. He retired as manager of the cooperative on Jan. 1, 2008. On July 1, 2008, Roger and Donna moved to Sioux City to be closer to their families. During his retirement, Roger worked part time at the Singing Hills Hy-Vee in the produce department to keep busy.

While living in Jefferson, Roger and Donna were members of First United Methodist Church where he had served in several offices throughout the years. He was also a member of the Jefferson Rotary Club and Lions Club for many years. Roger was an avid golfer and member of the Lakeside Golf Course in Jefferson. Through his position with the power cooperative, Roger was affiliated with several associations on the local, state and national levels.

Roger and Donna enjoyed being back in Northwest Iowa to be closer to family. Being raised on a farm, Roger enjoyed being able to help his brothers-in-law on their farms.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Donna of Sioux City; a daughter, Amy Gammel and her husband, Dave of Lincoln, Neb.; his parents, Lloyd and Gerri Wieck of Hinton; a brother, Ron Wieck and his wife, Carol of Sioux City; in-laws, Edie and Doug Prewitt of Merrill, Tim and Sandy Vondrak of Merrill, Julie and DeWayne Juelfs of Merrill, Jane and Mike McDougall of Le Mars, Bob and Lucille Vondrak of Merrill, Roxanne and Merlin Wagner of Le Mars, Tony and Kris Vondrak of Merrill, and Gary and Carolyn Goebel of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Henry and Jessie Wieck and Peter and Louise Trometer; a sister-in-law, Beverly Goebel; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Irene Vondrak.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Goff, Todd Wieck, Scott Wieck, Tim Vondrak, Bob Vondrak and Doug Prewitt. Honorary pallbearers will be John Gerken and the staff at Wilcox Law Firm and Ken Hastings and the Midland Power Cooperative board of directors.
