SIOUX CITY -- Mary Jane Knudson, 88, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Squires of Crescent Park United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mary Jane was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Newcastle, Neb., the daughter of Ed and Winnie (Wilbur) Heydon. She attended country school and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1940. She taught in rural schools for three years.

She married Daryl Knudson on Sept. 11, 1943, and they had three children, Kenny, Carol and Linda. In 1956, they moved to Albuquerque, N.M., for their son's health. She worked for the Albuquerque Public Schools, retiring after 20 years. The family returned to Sioux City in 1987. Daryl died Aug. 15, 2000, in Sioux City.

She was a member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing crafts.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Wilmesherr of Sioux City; a son-in-law, John Pinkham of New Jersey; two grandchildren, Rich Wilmesherr and his wife, Robin of Lawton, Iowa, and Beverly Pratt and her husband, Chris of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Brooke and Colby Wilmesherr and Brianna and Brice Pratt; a sister, Bonnie Harder and her husband, Charles of Sioux City; a brother-in-law, Eldon Knudson and his wife, Alethia of Sioux City; and sisters-in-law, Maurine Ruffin of Ponca, Neb., Jeanne Stenstrom of Coon Rapids, Iowa, Phyllis Heydon of Sioux City, and Bonnie Knudson of Crystal River, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Daryl; her son, Kenny; her daughter, Linda; a sister, Charlotte Rose; and six brothers, Perry, Willard, Wilbur, Ernest, Walter and Nathan.

Pallbearers will be Richard Wilmesherr Jr., Christopher Pratt, John Pinkham, Kevin Knudson, Michael Brewer Jr. and Greg Harder.
