SIOUX CITY -- Lloyd F. Stafford, 84, formerly of Sioux City, died Dec. 14, 2010, in Babbitt, Minn.

A memorial service was held Dec. 18 in Babbitt.

Lloyd was born July 8, 1926, to Lloyd and Blanche Stafford at Kellogg, Minn., moving to Sioux City shortly afterward. He attended Central High School until joining the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving two years in active duty on the USS Idaho in the Pacific Theatre.

In 1949 he married Caroline Weaver. Lloyd worked for Sears for many years until retiring to the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping, and enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Caroline; four children, Judy Stafford of Sioux City, and her children, Ben, Luke and Joe Petersen; Sally Downey of Sebastopol, Calif., and her daughter, Ashley Welch; Jim (Karen) Stafford of Ware, Mass., and their children, Shane, Tyler and Matthew; and John (Barbara) Stafford of Alberton, Mont., and their children, Ryan, Stephanie, David Stafford, Charity Gilbert and Hanna Lashmett; and a brother, Steve (Sharon) Stafford of Arnolds Park, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Kate Stafford Petersen.
