SIOUX CITY -- Gary Lee Brown, 67, of Bena, Minn., formerly of Sioux City and Galva, Iowa, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minn.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cass Lake, Minn., with the Rev. Alan Wierschke officiating under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Cass Lake. Messages of condolence may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com.

Gary was born Aug. 25, 1942, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Leta (Specketer) Brown.

He was raised and educated in Galva, Iowa, graduating from Galva High School in 1958. He spent a year in business college in Omaha.

He married Janet Levin on Oct. 7, 1962, in Galva. He worked in Sioux City, Iowa for five years at Avco Finance and at Max Rosenstock Company for nine years. Gary and Jan purchased McArdle's Resort in 1979 and operated it for 28 years. They sold the resort to their son, Craig, and his wife, Paige, in 2007.

Gary and Jan enjoyed spending time at their Green Valley, Ariz., home in the winter and at the resort in the summer for the last three years. He loved fishing, golfing, hunting and traveling. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Cass Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Brown of Bena, Minn. and Green Valley, Ariz.; four sons, Curt (Jan Spooner) Brown of Baxter, Minn., Carey (Sonja Reimer) Brown of Baxter, Craig (Paige Reimer) Brown of Bena, and Chad (Heidi Dixon) Brown of Sheldon, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Natalie and Nicole Brown of Baxter, Matthew and Nate Brown of Bena, and Parker and Carter Nissen of Sheldon; two brothers, Rodney (Dina) Brown of Green Valley, and Doyle (Karen) Brown of Ida Grove, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Janice Levin.
