SIOUX CITY -- Gary Lee Collins, 54, of Sioux City passed away suddenly Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Gary was born May 1, 1956, in St. Paul, Minn., to Samuel and Dorothy (Bern) Collins. He graduated from East High School. He earned a computer programming degree from Western Iowa Tech Community College.

He was married to Carolyn Haines-Stroman on Sept. 27, 1997, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was employed with Woodbury County, working secondary roads and inspecting bridges.

He enjoyed golfing, where he was a member of Covington Golf Course, bowling and fishing when he wasn't golfing or bowling.

Gary is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Sioux City; a son, Corey Collins of Sioux City; three stepdaughters, Stacy (John) Book of Oto, Iowa, and Sandy Stroman and Sara Mossberg, both of Sioux City; a brother, Michael Collins of Sioux City; a sister, Betty (Dan) Burright of Sioux City; a niece, Jennifer Burright of Sioux City; and nephews, Mark and Fred Collins of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brandon Collins; three brothers, Charles, David and Eddie Collins; and a nephew, Jason Burright.
