SIOUX CITY -- Dessie R. Redman, 60, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at a local care facility.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Tabernacle Church, 610 Center Street, in Sioux City. Interment will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Online condolences for the family may be made at www. waterburyfuneralserviceinc.com. Waterbury Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Dessie was born July 2, 1950, in Yantley, Ala., the daughter of Willie James and Jessie P. (Johnson) Ford. She was the middle child of a family of seven. She lived in Alabama until moving to Sioux City at a early age. She attended and graduated from Central High School. In 1968, she attended and graduated from MDTA college in Des Moines where she received a business degree. She then worked for the Jobs Corps in California.

In 1970, she was united in marriage with Henry Redman and to this union two daughters were born. Dessie lived in St. Louis, Mo., for many years working as a clerk in a grocery store as well as serving as a home health aide. The family moved to Sioux City in the early 1990s.

She enjoyed spending time with her loving family, as well as playing bingo. Dessie was a member of the Tabernacle Church.

She will be missed by her family which includes her loving husband of 40 years, Henry of Sioux City; her two beautiful daughters, LaTonya and LaToya, both of Sioux City; one stepson, Benjamon Redman; three stepdaughters, Marie Redman, Maretta Redman, and Nancy Redman; her father, the Rev. Willie James Ford of Sioux City; her three brothers, Jessie Ford of Sioux City, Glen Ford of Lincoln, Neb., and Elder Harvey Ford of Memphis, Tenn.; her three sisters, Bessie Douglas of Sacramento, Calif., Darline Phillips of Antioch, Calif., and Carolyn Ford of Sioux City; her granddaughter, LaViah Redman of Sioux City; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dessie was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie; and her grandmother, Anne Ruth Johnson.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given in her name to a charity of the donor's choice or to the family.
