SIOUX CITY -- Ward W. Linscott, 77, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at a local hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Westlawn Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Paul Speidel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Ward was born March 30, 1933, in Sloan, Iowa, the son of Oliver F. and Hazel (Andersen) Linscott. He was raised and received his education in Sloan. He joined the U.S. Army in February 1953 and received his honorable discharge in February 1955.

He married Jean N. Hall on Nov. 1, 1957, in Ponca, Neb. At the age of 18, Ward started his sales career with American Gear Company in Sioux City until 1977, when he joined the crew at Northland Oil Company in Waterloo, Iowa. He was still working on a part-time basis for Northland Oil until his sudden passing on Sunday.

He enjoyed racing, being a driver of car 54 for many years on the dirt track circuit locally. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and attended many years at the Knoxville Sprint Car Nationals, where racing fans affectionately called him "the Knoxville Legend. He also enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of American Legion Monahan Post 64.

He is survived by his three daughters, Brenda F. Harder and her husband, Kenneth, and Gerrie Linscott and her special friend, Rob Hanson, all of Sioux City and Vicki Kelley and her husband, Steve of Aloha, Ore.; a brother, Fred Linscott of Sloan; grandchildren (also serving as pallbearers), Melissa Ivanova, Kyle Linscott, Emily Linscott, John Linscott, Anthony Harder, Megan Musick, Kelsi Harder, Cody Harder, Corey Cable, Cali Cable, Alex Kelley and Camron Kelley; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean in 2008; a son, Ward Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Susan Linscott; and a brother, Donald Barnes.
