SIOUX CITY -- Eugene Francis Fleming, 88, of Sioux City entered the kingdom of heaven Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital. He was loved by everyone who knew him.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com.

Gene was born Aug. 23, 1922, the son of Jack and Florence (Feist) Fleming. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Trinity High School. He graduated from Central High School in 1940. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge.

After the service, he returned to Sioux City where he met and married Darlyne Velder in 1947. Darlyne passed away in 1950. On Jan. 16, 1954, he married Dorothy M. Wisner in Sioux City. Dorothy passed away on Dec. 12, 2002. Gene owned and operated the Fleming and Dale Livestock Firm at the Sioux City Stockyards for 35 years. After he retired from the firm, he worked part time for the Frank Scott Commission firm.

He was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he sang in the men's choir and served as a cantor. He enjoyed golfing, racquetball and watching Heelan, Notre Dame and Iowa sports. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by a son, Tom and his wife, Mary of Sioux City and their three daughters, Allison and her husband, Dan Douglas, Stacy Fleming and her fiance, Matt Schonrock, and Lindsey and her husband, Rory Audino; a daughter, Suzanne and her husband, Kenneth Ash of Loveland, Colo., and their two daughters, Angie and her husband, Mike Emmons and Amy and her husband, Rob Agee; a son, Jack and his wife, Jane of Menomonee Falls, Wis., and their three children, Ryan, Andy and Leah; a son, Dan and his wife, Sheryl of Sioux City, and their two children, Josh and Kady; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Marian Fleming of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; his brother and his wife, Jack and Joan; a brother, Jim; and a sister and her husband, Mary Lou and Bill Luxford.
