SIOUX CITY -- Helen R. Jaros, 82, of Sioux City, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went home to join her husband, John and daughter, Linda on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. Her daughters Nancy and Kim were at her side.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of the Resurrection, Holy Spirit Retirement Home. The Rev. Dennis Meinen will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Helen was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Le Roy and Mildred (Peterson) Schulz. She was raised in Merrill and Le Mars, Iowa. She came to Sioux City as a young lady, where she worked at Rob Roy Canning company.

On March 29, 1947, she married John J. Jaros in South Sioux City. The couple raised three daughters. Helen was a homemaker and she and John had a carpet cleaning business for many years.

Helen was a loving mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a wonderful cook. She loved her puzzle books, crocheting and was an avid Twins, Hawkeyes and Husker fan. She loved going fishing with John. She was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She made many close friends at Holy Spirit and enjoyed playing bingo with the residents. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Steve Vlach of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Kim and Charles Kalskett of Omaha; her son-in-law, Dennis Larkin of Sioux City; her six grandchildren, Chris Fischer, Sarah Kolbe and her husband, Jay, Jennifer Larkin-Rowley and her husband, Josh, LeAnn Larkin, Nicole Larkin, Sean Larkin; two great-grandchildren, Araya Larkin and Kylen Larkin; her brothers, Bill of Merrill, and Manual and Nancy of Struble, Iowa, Alvin of Struble, Darrell and Cathy of Le Mars, Iowa, LeRoy and Betty of Le Mars; and her sisters, Sharon of California, Diane and Pete Kamstra of Orange City, Iowa, Paulette and Jerry Lewis of Le Mars, Betty and Mark Saltsgiver of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John in 2003; her daughter, Linda Larkin; and a sister, Shirley Ainsworth.

Her family wishes to express love and gratitude for the very kind and special care provided by the Holy Spirit staff and Hospice of Siouxland.

A memorial has been established in her name for Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
