SIOUX CITY -- Michael E. Kasotakis, 96, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Touchstone Living Center.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. George P. Pappas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Michael was born July 25, 1914, in Nithavri, Amariou, Rethimnon on the island of Crete in Greece, the son of Emmanuel and Ioanna Kasotakis. He served during World War II with the Greek Army.

On Aug. 25, 1945, he married Stella Fountoulakis in Nithavri, Crete. In 1969, the couple came to the United States and worked for Smurfit Container Corp. in Sioux City for 11 years.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and the Cretan Society. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and having coffee with friends.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Stella; two sons and their wives, Emmanuel and Demitra Kasotakis of Detroit, Mich., and Nicholas and Leah Kasotakis of Sioux City; five grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Michael and Demaris Kasotakis, Nicholas and Niki Kasotakis, Stella and Taki Manousakakis, all of Detroit, Michael Kasotakis and his fiancee, Georgene Bairamis of Sioux City and Pam and Garrisen Hanner of Sioux City; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Crete.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Nicholas; and a sister, Stella.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
