SIOUX CITY -- Jean A. Johnson, 92, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Touchstone Living Center.

A celebration of life service will be 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.

Jean was born June 28, 1917, in Meadow Grove, Neb., the daughter of Mert and Abbie (Bennett) Sullivan. She grew up in Meadow Grove.

She married Cliff Johnson in 1935. He died in 1963. After moving to Sioux City, Jean was a caretaker and nanny for the Wilson Persinger family for 35 years.

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church recently, but was a member of St. Joseph parish in Sioux City for 54 years. She was proud to have lived through the Great Depression. She enjoyed cooking, baking and traveling. The most important part of her life was her family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Beacom and Roni Connors, both of Sioux City; a son, Dennis Lee Johnson of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Catherine Neswick of Ochechobee, Fla.; two brothers, Dan and Robert Sullivan, both of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Kristin Hudelson (Bob), Kelly Connors (Brandi), Kerry Allshouse (Darrin), Dr. John Beacom, Jeanne Hennings (Kent), Jackie Reller, Carrie Cunningham (Jim), Katie LaFleur (Jon), Dr. Betsy Sigler, Mariah Johnson, and Daniel Johnson; and 18 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jessica and Jordyn Hudelson, Ryan and Westin Reller, Jonathan and Kaitlyn Hennings, Ellie Sigler, Abbie, Emma, Lauren and Maddie LaFleur, Kyle and Jaden Groves, Karigan Rossiter, Avery Allshouse, Ally and Erin Cunningham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mert and Abbie Sullivan; a sister, Betty Gaffey; three brothers, Darold, Harold and Leo Sullivan; and a great-grandson, Jonathan LaFleur.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Connors, Jacob Hudelson, Jonathan Hennings, Dr. John Beacom, Bob Hudelson, Jim Cunningham, Kent Hennings and Jon LaFleur. Honorary pallbearers will be John Persinger, Russell Dokken, Tory Sigler, Daniel Johnson, Ryan Reller, Westin Reller and Mike Henke.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jean's lifelong friends, the Wilson Persinger family for all their love and support. A special thank you also to Hospice of Siouxland.
