SIOUX CITY -- Ramona C. Meuret, 81, of Sioux City died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Ramona was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Fordyce, Neb., one of 11 children of Herman and Christine (Schroeder) Steffen. She was raised in Fordyce and moved to Sioux City in 1948, to attend beauty school. She worked as a beautician for nearly 40 years.

On July 3, 1950, she married Richard Meuret of Sioux City in a double wedding with her sister, Eleanor and Pete Burback at Constance, Neb.

Ramona belonged to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Church Confraternity. She was also a member of the Blessed Sacrament Sewing Circle. She was active with the Sioux City Garden Club and the Craft and Culture Club.

She is survived by her husband, Richard of Sioux City; five daughters, Michele (Roger) Jackson of Creston, Iowa, Jackie (Russ) White of Des Moines, Renee (Ken) Farley of Santa Barbara, Calif., Elise (Rick) Novotny of Sioux City, and Cheri (Dan) Jensen of Mankato, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eleanor Burback of Yankton, S.D., Mary Vanderheiden of Laurel, Neb., and Elizabeth (Harry) Walton of Alameda, Calif.; one brother, Andrew (Rita) Steffen of Crofton, Neb.; and her lifelong friends, Jack and Mona Graham of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Ike, Greg, Walter, and Robert Steffen; two sisters, Bernadette Bockholt, and Rosalia Lammers; one great-grandson, Brecken Novotny.

A memorial has been established in her name of Trinity Heights/Queen of Peace.
