LAWTON, Iowa -- David O. Swanger, 58, of Lawton died Saturday, June 5, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dan Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. David was born Sept. 3, 1951, in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Russell and Gertrude (Rohmiller) Swanger. He attended grade school the first two years in Moville, Iowa until moving to Sioux City. He then attended Immaculate Conception School and Sioux City's Bishop Heelan High School for two years. He graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1970.

He married Teresa Boyle on Aug. 28, 1971, in Newcastle, Neb. He was employed at Stone Container Corp. until his retirement 20 years ago.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He loved horses, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, watching all the grandkids with their sports and cooking and baking, mostly chocolate chip cookies. He loved to play cribbage, travel, tease his family, but most of all, was very proud of his family.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Swanger of Lawton; sons, Brian and his wife, Jen of Sioux City and Matt and his wife, Mandi of Moville; a daughter, Eve Sanford of Moville; four brothers and their wives, Doug and Sandy of Sergeant Bluff, Dennis and Kereen of Moville, Dwayne and Angie of Waterloo, Iowa, and Dean and JoDee of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Russell, Rachael, Ryan and Isaiah Swanger and Skylar, Alexa, Bryden and Blase Sanford; and several nieces and nephews, who all held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donnie; and two sisters, Diane Brown and Donna Swanger.

Pallbearers will be Tom Monahan, Jerry Smola, Bret Weinrich, Branda Kennedy, Mike Boyle, Troy Boyle, Chassidy Bumgardner, Brook Swanger, Missy Swanger, Adam Sleezer and Justin Swanger.
