CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Casey A. Thomas, 47, of Correctionville passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Correctionville Assembly of God Church (the former Eastwood School building) in Correctionville, with Pastor Keith Byers officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., with Pastor Beverly Wolff officiating, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, Iowa.

Casey Alan Thomas was born Oct. 10, 1962, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Clarence A. "Buzz" Thomas Jr. and Kaye (Markusen) Thomas. He was a lifelong resident of Correctionville. In 1981, he graduated from Eastwood High School of Correctionville. He was active in sports, still holding many school records in track and played on the state championship football team in 1977. Casey attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., on a football scholarship.

He was married to Vicky (DeJong) Thomas on April 10, 1993, at the Country Club in Moville. From this union, two children were born, Ciara Kaye Ashley Thomas, 16, and Cauy Dale Albert Thomas, 10. Casey was a third-generation farmer and worked with his father until his passing and farmed with his mother until she retired.

He enjoyed his life's work in farming, as well as boating, jet skiing, camping and gardening. He loved being outside and time spent being with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Vicky; daughter, Ciara; son, Cauy; his mother, Kaye Thomas; sister, Kim Wortman and her husband, Danny; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his father, Buzz Thomas; and his brother, Carey Thomas.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Casey's memory at First National Bank in Correctionville.
