CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Fred H. Benedix, 83, of Correctionville passed away Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at the home of his son, David in Avoca, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, Iowa, with the Rev. Bev Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, Correctionville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the St. John Lutheran Church of Cushing. The Nicklas D Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville is in charge of the arrangements.

Fred was born March 16, 1927, to Fred L. and Marie Benedix, on a farm east of Pierson, Iowa. He graduated from Pierson High School in May 1944. After graduation, he farmed with his father for a number of years.

He married Shirley Krueger on July 29, 1951. They farmed in the Anthon, Iowa, and Correctionville areas all of their married life. To this union four children were born, Marilyn, David, Cheryl, and Kevin. While farming, Fred was also employed by the A.S.C.S. and the Federal Crop Insurance Programs. After retiring from farming, Fred worked for the Valley Park Apartments in Sioux City, and later he worked for Willow Ridge Farms until November 2008.

One of his greatest pleasures was dancing with his wife and their friends at local ballrooms. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, but he especially enjoyed driving the country roads and admiring the crops.

Survivors include his daughter, Marilyn and husband, David Wandersee of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son, David and wife, Starla Benedix of Avoca, Iowa; daughter, Cheryl and husband, Bill Eubank of Watertown, S.D.; son, Kevin and wife, Christine Benedix of Omaha; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; sister, Teresa McQueen; and sisters-in-law, Dolores Benedix and Marie Benedix; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; and his brothers, Dale and Robert.
