J. Robert Devine, 74, Sunrise Retirement Community, died Saturday, November 20, 1993, at the nursing home after a long illness.
Services will be 1`0 a.m. Tuesday at Nativity Catholic Church with Monsignor Roger J. Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery at Climbing, Hill, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 8 p.m. at Christy Morningside Funeral Home.
Mr. Devine was born October 8, 1919, in Ute, Iowa. He attended Climbing Hill Schools and graduated from Climbing Hill High School. He married Betty Francis April 4, 1940. She died June 26, 1981. He married Marjorie Mills Davis November 6, 1982. He lived most of his life in the Sioux City area, except from 1968 to 1981, when he lived in Jefferson, Iowa. He farmed in the Sioux City area and was county manager for the Greene County ASCS office in Jefferson.
Mr. Devine was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and a former member of the Kiwanis Club and Good Sams Club.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Dean Rasmussen of Bronson, Iowa, Fran and Vern Renken of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Becky and Dale Glidewell of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons and their wives, David and Leona of Houston, Texas and Dennis and Marge of Geneva, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Laurence and a sister, Irene.
A memorial has been established in his name with the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
