Anthon, Iowa—Wilbur John Parkhill, 82, of Anthon died Monday, October 14, 1996 at the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Kastler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mr. Parkhill was born January 13, 1914, in Oto, the son of Charlie and Edith (Warner) Parkhill. He graduated from Oto Public School in 1934.

On January 16, 1938, he married R Caroline Frandsen of Anthon. The couple lived on a farm west of Oto and owned and operated a grocery store in Oto. They lived in San Francisco, California, during World War II, where he worked as a foreman in a shipyard. They returned to Anthon at the end of the war and joined his father-in-law, Rasmas Frandsen in the Bee Keeping Business.

He also worked for E.B. Towers Standard Oil in Anthon. He drove a school bus and activity bus for the Anthon-Oto Community School for 25 years. He later worked part time at the local gas station owned by Ron Houghtaling and later by Kenny Carrington.

Mrs. Parkhill died October 2, 1996.

Mr. Parkhill was a member of the United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Thona Chapter 423, the Masonic Cerulean Lodge 550 AF&AM of Anthon and the Sioux Honey Association.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Marie and Dave Westphal of Cushing; a granddaughter and her husband, Dee and Todd Long; a grandson, Joel Westphal; two great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Evelyn and Chester Claus of Smithland and Delia and Gordon Lane of Ticonic; and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Parkhill of Danbury and Doris McElrath of Moville.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil, James, Russell and Charles; a sister, Maisel Cameron, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Carrington, Ron Houghtaling, Herman Feddersen, Bob Lewis, Vic Banta and Wayne Pierce.
