Anthon, Iowa—R. Caroline Parkhill, 77, of Anthon died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 1996, at6 Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Correctionville.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Anthon United Methodist Church with Pastor Kent Kastler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mrs. Parkhill was born August 1, 1919, in Anthon, the daughter of Rasmus and Marie (Weathers) Frandsen. She graduated from Anthon Public School in 1937.

On Jan. 16, 1938, she married Wilbur John Parkhill of Oto. The couple lived and farmed west of Oto and owned and operated a grocery store in Oto. They lived in San Francisco, California, during World War II and returned to Anthon near the end of the war. She worked for the Anthon Herald Newspaper for many years and also at the Anthon Café for several years. She then took a nurse’s aide course at Kingsley and worked at the Willow Dale Nursing Home in Battle Creek until her retirement.

Mrs. Parkhill was a member of the Anthon United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, Thona Chapter 423 of Anthon, where she held most offices and was a former state office holder. For many years, she was a member of the Anthon Women’s Club.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Marie and her husband, Dave Westphal of Cushing; a granddaughter, Dee Long and her husband, Todd; a grandson, Jack Westphal; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris McElrath of Moville; three sisters-in-law, Evelyn and her husband, Chester Claus of Smithland, Delia and her husband, Gordon Lane of Ticonic and Joyce Parkhill of Danbury.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Warren and several brothers and sister-in-law.
