SIOUX CITY -- William E. Rodawig, 77, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Torey Lightcap officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

William Ellis Rodawig was born in Spirit Lake, Iowa, on June 23, 1932. He was a second son of Donald F. Rodawig, M.D. and Mary Ellis Rodawig. He graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1950. He attended the University of Iowa, and graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor of science in agriculture in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving both active and reserve duty and retired with the rank of captain.

He married Julie Ann Aalfs on Nov. 26, 1955. He served as executive vice president of Aalfs Manufacturing Inc. until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where he served as senior warden. He founded the A.S. Garritson Society in 1986, was an active board member for the United Way and its various agencies, Briar Cliff University, Holy Spirit Retirement Home and led efforts for the restoration of Historic Fourth Street. He was also very active in retirement serving as president of the Ocean Club of Florida, city council member of the Village of Golf and most recently, he served on the board of governors of the Country Club of Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Julie; his three sons, Eric and Sandi Rodawig of Dakota Dunes, Andrew and Sue Rodawig of Dakota Dunes and Alex and Caroline Rodawig of Greenwood Village, Colo.; his grandchildren, Eric and his wife, Niki and Rachel Rodawig, Chase and Paige Rodawig, Lizzy Wagner, Sophia and Victoria Rodawig; his brother, Donald F. Rodawig Jr., M.D. of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and sisters, Susan Reams of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Sandra Smoley of Sacramento, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Briar Cliff University or the Wilbur Aalfs Public Library.
