SIOUX CITY -- E. Eileen McCleerey Dawson, 90, of Sioux City, formerly of Paullina, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, at a Sioux City care center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. John Pehrson officiating, followed by a lunch at the church. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. in the Correctionville City Cemetery, Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Eileen was born May 16, 1919, in Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Alex H. and Elsie J. (Bower) Fullerton. She was active in the school music program and graduated from Correctionville High School.

She married Wilbur "Bill" McCleerey on March 5, 1941, in Sioux City. To this union a daughter, Beverly, was born. The couple lived in Correctionville, Washta, Quimby, Iowa, and moved to Paullina, Iowa, in 1952. She was employed at the Paullina Dry Cleaners, Lange's Cafe and as a cook at the Paullina Nursing Home. She later was employed as a cook at a nursing home in Cherokee, Iowa. Her husband, Bill, died May 11, 1970, in Paullina.

She then married Melvin Dawson on July 10, 1992, in Lawton, Iowa. They made their home in Sioux City. Melvin died Feb. 5, 2002, in Sioux City.

She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her pen pals, doing things for others and writing poetry.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly "Bev" and her husband, Robert "Bob" Jipp of St. Charles, Mo.; two grandchildren, Bobbi and her husband, Eric Gitlin and Martin Jipp; four great-grandchildren, Erica, Sophie and Evan Gitlin and Takoda Jipp; a sister, Naomi and her husband, John Wansink of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Claudia Schulke and husband, Gene of Storm Lake, Iowa; and her extended family, Melvin's children, Ron (Jace) Dawson, Doug Dawson, Connie (Don) Fowler and Diana Gard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; four brothers, Bert, Roy, Clarence and Earl Fullerton; and two sisters, an infant sister and Grace Schulke.
