DANBURY, Iowa -- Leona Zurn Randall, 91, of Bellingham, Wash., formerly of Danbury, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Assumption in Bellingham. A vigil service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Westford Funeral Home in Bellingham.

Leona was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Danbury, to Louis J. and Mary E. Zurn. She graduated from Westmar College in Iowa with a teaching degree. She was a teacher in the Danbury (IA) School District for 13 years and worked for the state of Wyoming as a stenographer for 13 years. Leona married Max Randall in Rawlins, Wyo., in 1946.

She was a member of the VFW and St. Patrick's Academy in Danbury, and was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Bellingham and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ferndale.

Leona enjoyed playing cards, reading, needleworking and writing to shut-ins.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Randall Hofbauer of Bellingham; a sister, Louise Gaswint of Jefferson, S.D.; a brother-in-law, Alson Claus of Bellingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; a son, Paul David Randall; a son-in-law, Dale Hofbauer; and siblings, Agnes, Elizabeth, Margaret, Anna and Paul.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Washington or Whatcom Hospice.
