SIOUX CITY -- Hedy L. Zook, 87, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at her residence as a result of a fire.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.

Hedy was born Feb. 5, 1922, in Geddes, S.D., to Charlie and Anna (Card) Turek. She attended school in Tripp, S.D. She worked as a bartender and waitress for Edith and Joe's in 1953 and ran three bars for Zene Morgan until 1969.

She was married to Glenn R. Zook on July 22, 1972, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2004, in Sioux City.

Hedy was proud to be nominated the Truckers Queen and she liked to grow flowers. She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her two stepsons, Glenn M. (Sharon) Zook of New York, and Blaine (Laurie) Zook of Grants Pass, Ore.; two granddaughters, Tayna and Tara; a brother-in-law, John Zook; nephews, Jon and Leon Turek, Dan (Mary) Parker, Jeff Zook and Jay Zook; and nieces, Ruth (Mark) Parker, Diane Beagle, Julieiann Hobach, June Asher and Janice Paradise.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a stepson, Brian Zook; a son, Kenneth Ariones; a brother, George Turek; and three sisters, Irene Bagwell, Tillie Schaffer and Marjorie Parker.
