..SIOUX CITY -- Mary J. Staudt, 88, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.

Services will be 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Burns as celebrant. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon directly following the mass at Holy Spirit. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mary was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Frank and Sarah (Burns) Lenhart. After receiving her high school education, Mary received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

She married Charles W. Staudt on July 17, 1950, in Storm Lake. Mary devoted her career to teaching fourth-grade students in Fonda, Iowa, Galva, Iowa, West Lyon Community Schools, Inwood, Iowa, and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Schools in Sioux City. After 44 years of service to elementary age students, Mary loved to boast that she never got out of the fourth grade. She later in life delivered meals to the home-bound through Meals-on-Wheels in Sioux City.

She enjoyed reading and bowling, but most of all, Mary loved to visit with her family and friends.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Sandra DeLuca of Wall Township, N.J., and Susan Young (Arnie Isherwood) of San Clemente, Calif.; granddaughter, Alison Kay DeLuca and her husband, Kurt Michael Bopp of Somerset, N.J., and their newborn son, Dylan Michael Bopp, Mary's only great-grandchild. Mary was a loving mother and friend; she will be dearly missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Charles in September 2009.
