SIOUX CITY -- Eli J. Carrier, 83, of Hot Springs, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2010, in Hot Springs.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Eli was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Alga, N.D., to Joseph and Marion (Duaphinas) Carrier. Eli was one of 23 children.

He married Irene Hansen on July 14, 1951, in Sioux City. She died May 28, 2003, in Sioux City. Eli was self-employed and did caning of furniture at the Goodwill for 45 years. After his career at the Goodwill, he continued to do caning from his home.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Sioux City Lions Club for 50 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Wilson and her husband Charlie of Hot Springs, S.D.; a son, Robert Carrier and his wife Julie of Rock Island, Ill.; several brothers and sisters; and five grandchildren, Jonette Benson and her husband Jerry and their children, Ross, Ryan, Rachelle and Samantha; Becky Smith and her children, Sebastion, Alexandria and Daniel; Harley Spray and his wife Cara and their children, Chonteaul, Logan, Carley and Zain; Joseph Spray and his children, Jackie, Madison and Joseph Jr.; and John Spray and his wife, Crissy and their children, Sacha, Hailey, Justis and Abby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Irene; and several brothers and sisters.

A memorial will be established in Eli's name.
