LAWTON, Iowa -- Nina Genson, 97, of Lawton died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Waterman Cemetery at Sutherland, Iowa, with the Rev. Kwang Song officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Warner Funeral Home in Sutherland.

Nina Genson, the daughter of Shadrick and Bessie (Russler) Gillespie, was born Nov. 29, 1912, in Highland Township near Sutherland. Her childhood years were spent in the Sutherland area where she received her early education.

During the war Nina lived and worked in San Francisco, Calif., before returning to Spencer, Iowa, where she worked at A&M Laundry and the Lamplighter Motel until her retirement in 1980. She moved to Lawton in 1986, where she lives for 16 years before moving to Sioux City and was a resident of the Sunrise Retirement Home. She enjoyed playing bingo, cribbage pokeno and other card games.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (John) Goodwin of Lawton; one son, Billie (LaDonna) Genson of Dallas, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Gladys Genson of Richardson, Texas; seven grandchildren, Angela, Tommy, Rusty, Lane, Tracy, Shad and La Rena; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jack Genson; one grandson, Tim Goodwin; seven brothers, Archie, Harold, Merle, Maynard, Hershal, William and Ronald; and three sisters; Mona, Helen and Thelma.
