CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Ethel B. Knaack, 86, of Correctionville passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grace United Methodist Church of Correctionville, with the Rev. Sheryl K. Ashley officiating. Burial will be at the Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the church. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville is in charge of the arrangements.

Ethel B. Knaack, daughter of Clarence and Sadie (Bainbridge) Klingensmith, was born Sept. 23, 1923, at her parent's farm northeast of Pierson in Cherokee County, Iowa. She attended school at Grand Meadow Consolidated School, graduating with the class of 1941. She attended Tri-State Business School in Sioux City and later worked at the Council Oak Store in Kingsley, Iowa, and Isbell Insurance Agency in Correctionville.

On Feb. 21, 1946, she and Laverne Knaack were married. They farmed in the Pierson, Iowa, and Correctionville areas for 11 years, then moved to Wichita, Kan., where she worked as an accountant. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved back to Correctionville. Mr. Knaack died on Jan. 4, 1996.

Ethel was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary and Happy Hour Senior Citizens. She will be remembered for her devotion to her church as both a member and secretary. She was a talented cook, especially in baking cinnamon rolls. Her crocheted items were always a donation to the Bishop's In-gathering and veteran's causes. She was an avid gardener for as long as her health allowed.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and his wife, Denise of Pierson, Raymond and his wife, Ann of Correctionville; five grandchildren, Vernon and his wife, Karla of Correctionville, Lance and his wife, Kara of Grimes, Iowa, Andrew and his girlfriend, Megan of Carroll, Iowa, Kyle and his wife, Lora of Sioux City, and Sarah of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one great-grandchild, Andrea and one on the way; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Anderson of Correctionville, and Sandra Klingensmith of Kingsley; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Laverne; her parents; infant twins, Lester and Lila; daughter-in-law, Delcie; brother, Cecil; and many in-laws.
