SIOUX CITY -- Walter Henry Case, 83, former Sioux City resident, died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Plymouth Manor in Le Mars, Iowa.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with the Rev. Jason Larson, Pastor of Le Mars Methodist Church officiating, with military honors conducted. Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Case was born on July 31, 1926, in Kingsley, Iowa, son of U. Grant and Carlotta (Kisting) Case. He attended school in Kingsley. He received his B.A. degree in education and history from Iowa State Teacher's College. He served as a Gunner's Mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Frances J. Cripps on Aug. 22, 1948, in Sioux City. She died on Sept. 19, 2003, in Le Mars. After the couple's marriage, the family lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sioux City, Omaha and Des Moines, before returning to Sioux City in 1972. He and Frances moved to Le Mars in 1996. Mr. Case was a sales representative for General Foods and Maxwell House Coffee for a number of years. He then became a sales manager for the DeDe Beverage Company from 1971 until his retirement in 1998.

He was a member of the Le Mars United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Morningside Masonic Lodge 615, the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and American Legion Post 140 of Kingsley. He was a big fan of the University of Nebraska football team including going to high school football games. He was also an avid golfer as well as listening to music by the Glenn Miller Band. He was a loving father, husband and grandfather.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dave and Oanh Case of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Jane Davis and her husband, Tye Meintsma of Sheldon, Iowa, and Sue Case of Phoenix; five grandchildren, Nolan and Luke Case, Richard Mattison, Christopher and Alexander Davis; two great-grandchildren, Donovan and Calvin Mattison; and a sister, Alice Rasmussen of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, George Case; and a sister, Blanche Turner.
