KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Emma Marie Tyer, 85, of Kingsley died Friday, March 3, 2006, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Nazarene in Climbing Hill, Iowa, with chaplain Glen Houts Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville, Iowa.

Emma (Hansen) Tyer was born July 21, 1920, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Henry and Mary (Williams) Hansen. She grew up in Omaha and attend Omaha public schools, graduating from Tech High School.

She married Earl Tyer on May 28, 1938, in Omaha where the couple made their home until moving to a farm west of Climbing Hill in 1960. In 1963, they moved to a farm near Kingsley.

Emma was a member of Church of the Nazarene in Climbing Hill and a former Sunday school teacher. She also sang at church.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, making afghans and traveling. Emma and Earl wintered for 30 years in Texas, where Emma volunteered and tutored Hispanic children. Her favorite pastime was holding babies, whom she loved so dearly. This started with her own children, then her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Linda Tyer of Omaha and Cal and Barb Tyer of Kingsley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Naomi "Nonie" and Leonard Lund of Whiting, Iowa, and Norma Jean and Paul Linnell of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Tyer; an infant daughter, Betty Marie Tyer; a son, Richard Ray Tyer; her parents, Henry and Mary Hansen; and two sisters, Dorothy Shideler and Evelyn Devney.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Siouxland.
